Recordings

Turn any recording into a Study Doc

Record a lecture as it happens, or upload audio and video you already have. BrightStudy transcribes it, then turns the transcript into notes, flashcards and MCQs, the same way as any other upload.

Capture any lecture

However the lecture reaches you

Start from the upload page, whether the recording already exists or is happening right now.

01

Upload existing audio or video

MP3, WAV, M4A, MP4, WEBM, OGG or AAC, up to 200 MB.

02

Record live in your browser

Press Record, Pause and Resume whenever you need to, then Finish recording.

03

Keep going through a drop-out

Lose your connection mid-recording and BrightStudy picks up as another part of the same recording, up to 20 parts.

04

Review before you generate

Edit or delete any part of the transcript before turning it into notes.

05

Kept in its own Vault centre

Every recording and its transcript collect in a Recordings storage centre.

What happens to your words

From audio to an editable transcript

A live preview while you talk, and a proper transcript once you finish.

Example recording

Lecture: renal physiology and fluid balance, 42 minutes

Each stage

Live preview

  • Where your browser supports it, a rough transcript scrolls past as you talk.
  • This is only a preview — it is not the version used to generate your notes.

Transcribed by AI

  • BrightStudy sends the audio to AI speech recognition, a speech-to-text model, for the transcript that actually gets used.

Edit before you generate

  • Review the transcript for accuracy. You can edit or delete any part before generating your materials.
Built for real lectures

A recording that survives the real world

Lectures do not pause for a dead battery or a dropped connection, so BrightStudy is built to cope when they happen.

Keeps going through a reload

Close the tab or lose your connection mid-recording, and what follows becomes another part of the same recording, up to 20 parts.

Parts play as one track

In review, every part plays back as a single continuous recording, not separate clips.

One transcript, not several

The text from every part is joined into a single transcript to edit and generate from.

What audio and video formats can I upload?
MP3, WAV, M4A, MP4, WEBM, OGG and AAC, up to 200 MB.
Can I record a lecture live in BrightStudy?
Yes. Open the in-page recorder, press Record, and use Pause and Resume as needed before you Finish recording.
What happens if I lose my connection while recording?
BrightStudy treats what follows as another part of the same recording, up to 20 parts. The parts play back as one continuous track, and their text is joined into a single transcript.
How accurate is the transcript?
The transcript used to generate your notes comes from AI speech recognition, a dedicated speech-to-text model. Any live preview shown while you are recording is only a rough preview, not the final version.
Can I edit the transcript before generating notes?
Yes. A review screen lets you edit or delete any part of the transcript before you generate a Study Doc, flashcards or MCQs from it.
Where are my recordings kept afterwards?
In the Recordings storage centre in your Vault, where you can play the audio, edit the transcript, download it, rename it and see which Study Doc it made.
Can I get flashcards and MCQs from a recording, not just notes?
Yes. Tick Flashcards or MCQs when you generate from a recording, and they are made from the same transcript.
Is recording and transcription free?
Recording and uploading are free; transcribing and generating notes use your monthly AI allowance. Compare plans.
